What does A Thermostat Do?

A thermostat is a device that responds to changes in the temperature of a physical system and activates a heating or cooling system, which helps to maintain the temperature of your house or physical systems to the desired setting. Thermostat’s principal function is to control the operation of the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.

The normal body temperatures range from 36.1° c (97° F) to 37.2°C (99°F). When the temperature of your house or physical system or wherever the thermostat is installed is below the normal temperature the thermostat raises it to the normal temperature if it is above the normal temperature the thermostat lowers it to the normal temperature. In other words, when your home feels too hot, thermostats turn it down, the same way, when it feels too cold, it warms it up.

Thermostats can be used in controlling heat; they can as well be used in the ovens and refrigerators of one’s kitchens as well as in medical and scientific incubators.

There are four types of thermostats; these are Non-programmable, programmable, Wi-Fi, and smart.

Non- programmable Thermostat: This type is very basic and most suitable for those who are rarely away from home. They are simple and allow you to manually adjust them to your preferred temperature.

Programmable Temperatures: a programmable thermostat can be pre-programmed to adjust a specific temperature during the day or night time. It is based on what you like and want. This type of thermostat is best suited for those living in climates with drastic temperature changes

Wi-Fi Thermostat: This type of thermostat connects to a wireless network. This enables you to access them via your smartphones, computer, or tablet. These features enable them to be controlled remotely.

Smart Thermostat:  A smart thermostat has features that enable them to adopt various home automation tools and equipment. With time, the smart thermostat learns your living habits and adjusts the temperature to them. It is best suited for tech-savvy homes.

Below are some functions of a thermostat.

1. The thermostat can automatically raise or lower the temperature of your house to your desired setting.

2. Some thermostats can control humidity, outdoor air ventilation, and also let you know when the air conditioning filters need to be changed.

3. The thermostat is also used by boilers and heating systems to prevent overheating and control the temperature of the circulating water.

4. The programmable thermostat used with an HVAC zone control system can provide the best comfort and efficiency in your facility.

5. Thermostats maintain a comfortable interior temperature.

What all this means for you is, that it gives you a variety of options to choose from.
